The Indian Education System

This comes in direct response to the post put by Kartz on the education system of India, not that I don't feel that the system needs a "Revolution" or a "Revival", but I think, without understanding why we have such a system in the first place, trying to change it on the basis of its shortcomings purely may not necessarily lead to a more fulfilling educational system.
Let's start with analysing the socio-economic condition of a majority of our population. A family that barely manages to scrape through the last days of a month does not think about living in palaces, rather their every waking moment is spent thinking on how to ensure a safe and decently comfortable future for themselves and their children.Their primary aim with regards to their children is to see them clear their courses and become capable of earning a decent living. This does not imply that they dont want their children to be the next Tendulkar or Kalam, it merely means that they want to first see to it that their children become capable of standing on their own legs, and then later if they can, then follow their dreams. Why ? Is it because they don't have faith in their child's potential? No,It's simply because they don't have a good enough "Risk appetite".
"So ? How does this justify our present system of education",will be the obvious question in your minds,so read on..
The current education system is faced with two major problems.
1) The lack of infrastructure and funds.
2) Lack of opportunities for non main stream courses in our economy.
One can always come forward and debate over the fact that the first problem mentioned above is not really a formidable one and can be easily achieved via funding from the government and other sources.Agreed, but can a majority of the people afford the cost of such an education?? What I am implying is that there is a certain cost involved in making the education system more practical oriented rather than theoretical, even if we can establish the infrastructure, can we keep it running? Think about the majority of ppl here, those who scrape through the last week of a month and not the well to do families in the metros. The harsh answer is "No"! They cannot afford it, and if we have schools which have the infra and the funding to provide such a medium of instruction, and they have students whose families can afford it,well and good, let them implment such a system alongside with following the norms put down by the boards of education. Its not forbidden by law, is it ?
Secondly,I am myself a person who supports the concept and implementation of co and extra curricular activities in a school to bring out and further hone the skills and talents of a student, and am against a kind of a system which concentrates on mostly making every other student an engineer or a doctor.Whatever I may support, I have to ask one question however.Does a system that lets a child grow holistically and provides him with a wide variety of decisions, have enough sources which engender opportunities that can sustain these students ??
I am talking of fields like music, sports, arts etc.How many of these fields can assure you of a decent living, an assurance that comes somewhere near to the assurance you get after having a btech of Be degree or an MBBS ??Nowhere near that, and this is one reason majority of the arents do not encourage their children or the schools to conduct such activities. They do not have the risk appetite.
The fact is that our education system does have certain flaws but are they really that grave ?Has it really killed innovation? I dont think so,it might have lowered the rate but certainly has not dented it to a great extent because we are here and we are writing and thinking about it and many other things and we are products of this very system and believe me you we are no exceptions. The system may have its flaws but it caters to the primary need of our society, which is to make us capable of earning a decent life and stand on our own legs. The scenario will change slowly and the economic conditions will as well and when that happens you will see changes in our education system. We need to understand that people out there who make these decisions do not always lack common sense.

Few days Ago, In Patiala, there was this dj party where around 40 people danced and drank. The Entry was strictly couple.
Now one may wonder, why Tushar is telling us about a party???
Well let me inform you more.
40 people drank more then 40 bottles of Vodka. Most of the noble job was done by the girls.

Somehow there were some media people present in the hotel, and they called the police.
And the scenes that followed were hilarious.I mean you would roll on the floor laughing.
________________
Most of the girls ran away with their partners in flashy hi-fi cars. They were too drunk, still they managed.
One girl abused and hit a policeman.SHe was that drunk.
Few of them lied down on the streets.Blabbering something about how influential there parents were.

Consider the facts again
* Girls, in a couple party, drink so much in the afternoon that is, that they have to be dragged literally into the police cars.

But if drunken men fell in gutters after drinking so much, in the middle of the night,
is it necessary that girls have to repeat the fate on the roads in broad daylight???

An Interview with GOD "

the poem

THE INTERVIEW WITH GOD

I dreamed I had an interview with God.

“So you would like to interview me?” God asked.

“If you have the time” I said.

God smiled. “My time is eternity.”
“What questions do you have in mind for me?”

“What surprises you most about humankind?”

God answered...
“That they get bored with childhood,
they rush to grow up, and then
long to be children again.”

“That they lose their health to make money...
and then lose their money to restore their health.”

“That by thinking anxiously about the future,
they forget the present,
such that they live in neither
the present nor the future.”

"That they live as if they will never die,
and die as though they had never lived.”

God’s hand took mine
and we were silent for a while.

And then I asked...
“As a parent, what are some of life’s lessons
you want your children to learn?”

“To learn they cannot make anyone
love them. All they can do
is let themselves be loved.”

“To learn that it is not good
to compare themselves to others.”

“To learn to forgive
by practicing forgiveness.”

“To learn that it only takes a few seconds
to open profound wounds in those they love,
and it can take many years to heal them.”

“To learn that a rich person
is not one who has the most,
but is one who needs the least.”

“To learn that there are people
who love them dearly,
but simply have not yet learned
how to express or show their feelings.”

“To learn that two people can
look at the same thing
and see it differently.”

“To learn that it is not enough that they
forgive one another, but they must also forgive themselves.”

"Thank you for your time," I said humbly.

"Is there anything else
you would like your children to know?"

God smiled and said,
“Just know that I am here... always.”

The Indian Education System

"Education is the manifestation of the intellect already in man"- Swami Vivekananda

Youngsters in India, do not have the freedom of selecting there career, it is said. They are forced to become engineers, doctors, MBA’s and IAS officers, it is said. Yes, agree. But that is not the problem. The problem is, youngsters in India do not have the vision to think beyond. Neither their parents, nor their grandparents had that vision. This is where the root of the problem is. Generations have gone through a system which sucks. Now the beauty is even the law-makers and educators of today’s India are products of that age old system. That is why no less than a revolution is needed in the education system in India.

Is it marks or intellectuality, which makes future secure and bright? The question is yet unsolved. Who knows whether a chap scoring 90 per cent would have a glittering future or a guy attaining 50 per cent have splendid opportunities? No one can answer this. The reason for this is the failure of India's education system.

Being a bookworm, licking books day and night, sacrificing everything at the expense of enjoyment and then attaining a percentage in the 90s make students feel contented. But this contentment has to be paid for very soon when one realizes that one doesn't stand anywhere in this bloodthirsty world, which is the hard reality of life because world needs practical knowledge, not the theoretical one.

One studies for making his or her career successful, not for the short-lived appraisals by people living around. But Indian education system is cluttered in such a way that even government doesn't know what laws need to be enacted regarding the education system. Constructing a fixed syllabus and setting question papers out of it is the strategy of Indian schools. Why don't they understand that it would not give anything to children at the end? Why don't they focus more on practical or realistic aspects?

Not only schools or government deserve to be blamed, parents are also responsible for this cramming-and-getting-marks approach. The mentality of parents has been set in such a way that they judge their children according to the scores printed in the mark-statement. There is a section of dim-wit parents (I know; I sound brusque) who don't let their children be a part of extra curricular activities because they consider it a wastage of time.

There is a need to understand that the time has changed. We have stepped into 21st century where an employer has nothing to do with his employees academic life, instead, what he recognizes is his aptitude. Gone are the days of certificates and degrees. In fact, skillfulness, resourcefulness, talent and capability are some of the tools, which are demanded in this contemporary competitive world.

Traditionally, Indian education has emphasized on building the scientific temper and linguistic skills. In contrast to the education systems in Western countries, the system lays less emphasis on practical education. Less orientation to practical education is an impediment to on-the-job application and reasoning skills.

Problem-solving and innovation too are not highlighted and this could be one of the contributing factors for the low-risk taking character of Indians. Though efforts are now being made to change the system they are still in a nascent stage to expect drastic changes.

The most popular and sought-after careers in India are engineering and medical sciences. A typical Indian family is known to push children towards science and technology as a choice. Until recently, for students whose choices were not amongst the three main streams, it was difficult to make a career choice. The scene is now changing with myriad openings in streams that are combinations of the core stream subjects. With attractive salaries being offered for the new occupations, the societal impressions are changing, and there is greater acceptance to vocational courses.

In recent times, with the advent of technology, especially the Internet, many new options of higher education have opened up. Bio-informatics, nanotechnology, genetic engineering, technology management, infrastructure management, portfolio management, international business studies are amongst a host of other choices in the technical branches of study. The non-technical area includes fashion designing, office management, fire and safety management and journalism, amongst many more.

India aspires to be powerful, it wants to play a role in the international community, for that to happen, its economy has to grow multi fold and for that to happen, it requires a huge force of entrepreneurs who could transform it into a nation which produces, from the one which only consumes. India needs a huge force of innovators who could make it self reliant in all kinds of sciences and technologies. India needs artists who could make its culture the most popular in the world. A culture which is not only sale-able itself, but also helps in selling India’s products across the world. In a nutshell, India needs Henry Fords, Bill Gateses, Thomas Alva Edisons and Michael Jacksons born and educated in India.

One may say we had few. Yes, we had. M. S. Swaminathan who made India self reliant in food grains, Dhiru Bhai Ambani who proved a common man can become a billionaire, Dr. Varghese Kurien who is the father of Amul milk movement, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam who dared to build missiles for India, Pundit Ravishankar who is the ambassador of the Indian music to the world. Such people though in small numbers, were always there. But they are not the products of this education system. This system did not teach them how to become innovators or entrepreneurs or artists. Had it done so, they would have been millions in numbers. These people were inspired themselves. To some of them, their education may have given the technical know-how (though it is hardly conceivable), but not the dream or the inspiration needed. It is the education which should inspire one to become something one really wants to. Education should make you free, should make you experiment and it should make you ask questions. Ultimately, it should make you realize what you are.

The education system has to be revived if India is to be both philosophically and technologically advanced amidst the third world countries. Moreover, parents and students must understand the demand of today's world and must focus more on fruitful facets of life. Students must not limit themselves only to their academic books and must work to become scholars or intellectuals. Otherwise, their future may become dark.

In the words of Swami Vivekananda again, "We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one's own feet."

Some Thoughts...

1)The soul, aatma can find peace only if it approaches its owner, its bigger part, the Param-atma,bcz thats what it has been striving for since its creation, and that only is the sole purpose for its creation...

2)When there is darkness all around,in the past,in the present n even the future seems pitch black, only the eternal light can show the path...but the light will not come on its own,nor can anyone give it to you...you can be guided by the Gurus, but you have to yourself look for it...the external world will provide distractions,n then you'll put your soul's calling at the back of your mind, but eventually it'll call you back...thats why the worldly stuff can never give permanent happiness...

3)When life brings you over n over again at the same point, its trying to teach you something that you are not able to grasp...be good student...look for the answers...n move to the next chapter...the answers are within you...for God loves you so much that He put a part of His ownself inside you in the form of your soul...we are passed through tests so that we become pure enough to join Him back...

"The only permanent thing about this universe is that it changes...so change for the better"
May God bless you!

P.S.I had written this for someone when that person was a bit down...the thoughts are not completely mine...but were incorporated over a period of time...

Adopt what Is Right.....

I see that many people of my age group adopt certain western cultures. School students and college goers are often seen buying friendship bands and valentine cards. I feel its not right. You may think I am traditional and don't keep up to date views. But if you think a little maturely you will find out its not modern to wear friendship bands. Its rather pure pride. Now as I am talking about western culture I should tell you that I'm not against it in fact I find some of the western values very much followable like dignity of work, civic sense, accountability etc.

We have to maturely decide what to adopt from the westerners and what not to adopt.

Why should we go after them when we have a culture of such great versatility?

beauty creams for MEN

taken up as a challenge..
when this concept of beauty creams for men came up...it was something unusual..but once i read an interview by shenaz hussain who launched this product for men..she said she only startrtd up the fairness cream for men coz many men wrote to her tat wn she is launching products for beauty care n tat too for women ..y not men?????????n thn men'z fairness cream came out in the market..n the no. of sales shoooted up....really true..men strtd usin it n still they r...from college goin--adults..n wats wrong in it?when women have the right to look good feel good..thn y not men?the film actors , models..use it..n we have the answer from the opponents...it s their job to look good..n FAIR!!!n i say the commoners also have the right to loook good or to say fair..if the female sex is applyin hundreds of face pack..fairness creams..sunscreen lotions to protect their skin n look fair n good..i say y not men?they also wana look good...some say tat men usin fairness creams...it sounds funny..some say they r obsessed wd their looks. some say they wana impress the fairer sex..the point is it is not funnny..coz many use fairness creams coz smtmz they gt the feeling i wish i was fair..n this feelin is given to ppl by other ppl..so y will they not use fairness creams thn...they do n they will..n the product sales r still high..so men usin fairness creams..not a bad thing..u have the right to look the way u want.. but dnt b ashamed of ur skin color..coz th color does not matters..remember beauty lies within!!!!!!!

NATIONALISM AND PEACE/DESTRUCTION

Nationalism- the feeling of being a member of a nation, a feeling that can be deemed either patriotic or fanatic, depending on the extent to which the feeling degrades your ability to be sensible in making decisions on issues that may or may not directly concern the “Individual”. My doubt however is, why in the first place, did a need for such a feeling, such a sentiment arise? To usher in harmony and peace in a piece of land demarcated by boundaries drawn out of language, culture, traditions, lifestyles, food habits etc which in turn led to intolerance, disrespect and the urge to suppress the people of other “Kind” ? Was it to bring in peace or ring in bells of destruction of humanity as we understand it?

Lets see..
Why did I feel the need to live in a society? I feel, I cannot survive on my own? No. I feel, I will have a more comfortable life if I depend on other people? Yes. Am I really open to other people depending on me? Well, maybe, but I would prefer to set some filters first which will help me in short listing those whom I would like, rather those whom I would not mind helping(mind you, I am not putting any filters on receiving help.). Fine, the conditions are worked upon and accepted by a group who later go on to make a society and in the larger picture a nation. Now, peace and harmony prevail in my nation and so does humanity and kindness. I happy or am I?
There is something else that I see with the people of other nations and I want it (here I has now become a “We”, we standing for a nation), but at the same time I am not ready to relax my filters. Do I forget about it? No. Why? Because I cannot survive without having them? No. Because I am greedy for anything and everything that grants me a better life physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually? YES. Thus, what do I have my hands filled with? Wars, death and destruction, inhumanity and cruelty, abuse of basic human rights! In all of this we still manage to maintain a fair amount of peace within our nation!
What’s my conclusion? Should we have nations in the world? Yes. We should encourage the feeling of nationalism? Yes. Why? To maintain peace and harmony only in that piece of land? Absolutely yes! Should I have that selfish eye on what other nations have that I don’t? No. Do I have it? Yes. Do I restrain myself? No. Because I want the best for myself? Yes. Is it wrong??? No (here I have turned into a fanatic, but then can anyone define a universally accepted line as a demarcation between nationalism and fanatic nationalism??). Why not? My motherland is the greatest! Here’s where any rational man would drop his guns, because he will not be able to convince me that I am wrong.

So the million dollar question is, “what did my nationalism give me?” Peace or destruction?

The OLympic Medal And all that hypocrisy

۩ सर्व शकितमते परमात्मने श्री रामाय नमः۩
The Most boring thing happening these days is the olympic medal victory.
Sheer shameless Hypocrisy
* The most disgusting thing is presence of actor boxers in newsrooms, to tell you where who made the mistake and what really happened.
* People are dancing up and down that a wrestler won a bronze medal.Do they know that he had won a silver medal in the 2006 commonwealth games?Had these very same people and news people rejoiced in a similar fashion when this very man had won an Arjuna Award.

* Look at the facilities these people have grown up on.The government now so jubilant should hang their head in shame.
* The media, especially the hindi channels have shown another low they can achieve.A boxer,Akhil lost the bronze medal, and they are discussing and criticizing why he lost that match.
I am not a boxing fan, still i feel satisfied that someone had the guts, the spirit to wish a gold medal for himself and his country. If he lost, i don't want to hear a post motem of his performance.
* Abhinav Bindra again, the same case like the wrestler, is a known name in the shooting sport.
He has a long list of medals and achievements.Still it was only after a Gold medal in Olympics he is now a national hero, as the media reports it. Shame on us.
*How many people were actually anxious to see the boxing match, the wrestling match or even know anything about the shooting event?
* In cricket we are not doing well,at the same time when we are experiencing one of the best olympics performances. What a co-incidence.
I agree there are general rules such as survival of the fittest, and appreciation after only you have done something great. But here our nationalism is at stake i feel.
A sports person rightly said the other day."Its only once in 4 years when the country remembers us" This is a bitter truth and i don't see any reason to be excited that after around 100 years , one person in a population of billion plus, won a gold medal, in a sporting event many of us aren't even aware of.

Kashmir and some intellectual blabber

'Kashmir'- the heaven on earth. 'kashmir'- the breeding ground of terrorists. 'Kashmir'-an issue that never goes out of fashion. 'Kashmir'- a subject for pseudo intellectuals to blabber their way to fame. So much for a state which is called as the jewel in the crown of India.

What made me write this was a comment that renowned Indian writer Arundathi Roy made yesterday-"Kashmir needs freedom from India". She was speaking at a rally organised yesterday in Kashmir to push for the state's freedom. This preposterous comment, coming from a well-known Indian can affect India negatively in the world stage. I just can't understand what she thinks of herself. Messiah? or an one member world body who tells nations what they should do? Other than winning the booker prize for a load of crap, what are her credentials to speak about such a contentious issue of national importance? This latest talk-fest from her boneless tongue only re-affirms the fact that she wants to be in the limelight by hook or crook.

She's known to make such baseless and sometimes completely stupid comments. A case in point is the agitation of tribals that happened in 'Muthanga' in Kerala some years back. Some of the demands of the tribals were justifiable. But the way they chose to protest, by the cruel killing of an innocent policeman, was shocking. And expectedly, there was a severe backlash from the police. And does anybody remember what Ms.Roy commented on that petty agitation of tribals? "This reminds me of Jallianwala Bagh". Laughable, to say the least. Condemnable, on a serious note. Comparing such unjust agitations to a symbol of our national struggle proved her intellectual depth. She has made it a point to make such comments whenever she goes off the media radar. She can be classified among those kind of people who make remarks which are so different from public opinion that they hog the headlines. This is just a cheap way to gain publicity by these people who are not able to shine as expected in their own selected field.

Coming to the Kashmir issue, does any of these celebrated neo-intellectuals know what actually is happening in Kashmir? Or have they given it a thought to what actually will happen once Kahmir is granted independence? I guess few of these barking dogs know that Kashmir is given special consideration by India under article 370 of Indian constitution(source:wikipedia). Except for laws related to defence, no other law passed by the Indian parliament has validity in Kashmir until the state government also passes it. Kashmir is the only state having its own flag. Its the only state in India over which the supreme court doesn't have jurisdiction. The Amarnath temple issue has resulted in some separatist forces coming up with a renewed call of freedom for Kashmir. And people like Ms.Roy has blindly joined them, little knowing that those behind this conspiracy are the Pakistani terrorists and ISI. They raise voices of protests and tell whatever that comes to their tongue, little knowing that the freedom of expression that they are misusing would've been a scarce commodity had the same Kashmir been in Pakistan.

There are two options for Kashmir according to these evangelists of peace. One is for it to be an independent state and another is for it to join Pakistan. By the 1st option, the state will perish in no time, being situated in a volatile region surrounded by China, India and Pakistan. The so-called leaders of Kashmir can never stand up against such a situation. Less said about the second option, the better. Pakistan's political instability will guarantee a swift destruction of the newly acquired region. Another issue that comes up along with this are the pointless allegations that are made against the Indian army. They risk their own lives and guard us against enemies. But when they kill some terrorist, human rights groups crop up from everywhere questioning their actions. Its easy to blame the army and be a champion for the human cause in the eyes of others. But, before blaming they should spend atleast one day in the shoes of these brave soldiers.

PS-Arundathi Roy's closing comments were "India needs azadi from Kashmir as much as Kashmir needs azadi from India.” Is she really an Indian? Or is she playing a hero for the sake of world media? Whatever be the case, this is taking the idea of freedom of expression to a new low. Shame on u , ROY.

Regards,
Praveen

The horrifying reality of Kashmir...!

Read this only and only if you can comprehend an India which is communal not by constitution, but by action.Read this if you have it in you take in the truth.Read this if you can leave aside idealistic thoughts and feel the pain of a people who lost their identity, else don't..it's a request.

The Amarnath Holy Cave

(Will Bholenath unite Hindus to uphold Indian Integrity!!)

“J&K on the edge”. “Jammu on the boil”. “ Paradise is burning”. “Who can stop this mayhem ?”. “Separatists on the rise in the valley”. “Situation back to 1989”…. . These are some of the responses of the visual media that tried to analyze the reasons that led to the agitation in Jammu and Kashmir region of the J&K state.

The visual media – in all their ignorance- swore by the ‘Kashmeriat’ and the ‘secular model’ of Kashmir (read Muslims); Kashmir was described as an epitome of secularism to be emulated by each and every individual and state of India.

The central government watched the fun for days end on and then came up with the age old escapism of ‘all party meet’ on the issue that had seen Hindus, for once, joining hands on an issue that threatened their very basic existence in the state; having gone through the trauma of the forced exodus of Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) from Kashmir valley and the Srinagar city. Ironically, not many of the so called educated and well informed strata of the Indian society (including the media) are aware of it even today!!! This ignorance was manifest – for a discerning audience- on the visual media.

The magnificent yet sick diversion was reduction of the problem to a ‘Law and Order’ situation and ‘communal forces (read Hindus)’ raising their head. The self defined and the self proclaimed ‘Hindu’ parties/sangathanas were appealed to by the self styled ‘secular’ parties to show restrain thereby meaning to rope in and suppress the peoples’ movement so that the ‘powers that be’ remain comfortable, while the very basis of the existence of the Union of India was being questioned.

The Mass Ignorance:

“Separatists on the rise in the valley”. “Situation back to 1989”…. These kind of responses are indicators to the ignorance of the media personnel who are to, by quirk of destiny and to the curse of our Motherland- communicate to the people of India and world outside the events in the J&K state and reasons thereof. Therefore a very brief introduction to the issue is in order.

§ Kashmiri Muslim community was never secular minded. This is clear from the fact that when Late Sri Sheikh Abdullah launched his political outfit, to fight what he termed as atrocities by the Maharaja on the people of the state, he named it Muslim Conference. The Maharaja ruled J&K state that had people of nearly all religions in it. Later on he was to change it to National Conference, on the advice of the then Indian National Congress Leaders.

§ Kashmiri Muslims’ political aspirations never saw them as a part of the Indian Union; they were always traitors to its cause. This is because the Late Sheikh Abdullah (even while he ruled the state) led a separatist movement and its goal was to cede J&K state from the Indian Union.

§ The year 1975 can be considered as a watershed in the Kashmir politics. The separatist sentiment, here-on, saw an organized effort well supported by the government agencies. The state’s Chief Minister was Late Sheikh Abdullah. Openly, his lieutenants used to tell Muslims that this was not the time for agitating and seeking of jobs, but to get organized for achieving the ultimate aim of Azadi; while the Government of India (GOI) remained a silent spectator!! For Secular Reasons???

The Seed becomes a Baniyan Tree:

The concerted efforts, over the years, of the entire state machinery culminated in the upsurge of the insurgents in Jan’90 with open threats yelled out to the KPs by the state-of-the art gun wielding insurgents during their processions and public gatherings, from the Mosques to either embrace Islam or face slaughter. This was preceded by the hijack drama of the daughter of Mufti Md. Sayeed, the then Home Minister of India. Ms Mehbooba Mufti is now the leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that until recently ruled the state in coalition with the Congress. The streets of the Kashmir region were filled with the vociferous and uninhibited demands for Azadi.

While the self styled secular forces (read central government too) called this naked aggression against the State of India as the handiwork of misguided youth, and one of the important reason meted out for the outburst was “KPs had grabbed all the state jobs”; the insurgents availed of this chaos in the Indian political leadership to fully entrench themselves-with all the ammunitions at their command- in all the nooks and corners of the Kashmir region. Leaders were kept busy with obtaining the release of Ms Mehbooba Mufti. The popular perception, though, was that the Home Minister himself had got his daughter kidnapped to enable the insurgents to comfortably organize their future onslaughts.

Azadi obtained in 1990:

Kasmiri Muslims used to openly warn the KPs that one day they will throw the KPs out of the region and the GOI would not be of any help to them. The other connotation of Azadi was an Islamic state (at least a region) where no other religious group would have any meaningful existence. So, their representative in the GOI, the very Home Minister along with a Prime Minister (who was more concerned about proving his secular credentials because he was in power with the support of a so called Hindu- read communal- party) Sri V P Singh, through their agent in the Governor of J&K state, Sri Jagmohan, planned the unprecedented exodus of the KPs from the Kashmir region of the J&K state. That most unfortunate date was 19th Jan’90. It was not unfortunate just because a sinister conspiracy had been hatched against the KPs, but also that the integrity of India had been compromised. Thus an Islamic region was carved out in a ‘secular’ India by the self proclaimed secular parties.

The then Governor of J&K state, Sri Jagmohan, did not press into action the state machinery & defense personnel to safeguard the KPs against the threats of the insurgents, but mobilized it to arrange their exodus!! The Kashmiri Muslims were to acknowledge this agreement later on and its execution by the GOI. They would taunt KPs about their nationalism and the Indian army. The proof of this sinister conspiracy lies, may be, in the following statement:

When Sri V P Singh was told that the KPs have been forced to flee the Kashmir region, the Prime Minister of India replied,” WHO ARE KASHMIRI PANDITS ?”

In nearly two decades since 1989, the exodus of KPs is the only political event that gave the Muslims de-facto Azadi; thereafter it has been only gun running and extracting millions of rupees from the Indian tax payer to amass wealth that was to change the face of Srinagar city and Kashmir region, and concomitantly give rise to the organized prostitution never thought of in Kashmir in saner times. During this time, jobs within the state dried up for the KPs and the whole community that once boasted of being a well to do middle class was transformed into a community of slum dwellers!! Hardly any Prime Minister of India visited those slums. The conspiracy against the KPs was so obvious that nobody in the government talked of rehabilitating KPs in Kashmir region while on the contrary plans were being flouted to settle KPs in concrete slums in and around Jammu city. Secularism was at its strenuous best because Kashmir had been Islamized and integrity of India had been compromised.

Therefore the vested interests – be they ‘secular’ or ‘communal’- claimed from the roof tops that peace had returned to the Valley and prosperity was on the rise now that the tourists had started pouring in once again. NOBODY TALKED OF KASHMIRI PANDITS!! This was the Kashmeriat they talked of; the secular character of Muslim they talked of; the secular credentials of the government they talked of.

Threat to Azadi!

“Everything was going on smoothly”; “elections were to be conducted yet again”; “democratic forces had gained an upper hand over the separatists”; “misguided youth was joining back the mainstream”. Claims! Claims!! & Claims!!! All over and over again; the Muslims sure were laughing all the while at their apologists. Yes of course, the KPs had been consigned to the dustbin of the Indian & the J&K history. They never mattered.

What happened suddenly (once again??)!! Again a sudden (?) eruption!! Again slogans of Azadi!! Why! Why! Why!! Again ‘misguided youth’ from nowhere!! “Again 1989” Tragedy or a Farce!! Wake up Media! Wake up!! Try to know & the understand history.

What is this Amarnath Shrine Board? Nobody ever heard of it before!! Who brought it into prominence??

“We are told there is this land row!! We are told that the J&K government passed a G.O. for temporary allocation of 100 acres of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board during the Amarnath yatra period only to be rescinded a few days later because the coalition partner withdrew support after being the party to the allocation decision. The coalition partner stated that they had done whatever they had because the government’s decision was against popular (read separatist) interest. These facts have not been denied by any political party in the state.”

The questions that arise are: 1) why should there be protest by Kashmiri Muslims for temporary allocation of land for a purpose?, 2) why land in Kashmir cannot be allocated for Hindus of Jammu to perform their religious activities?, and 3) is Jammu not part of the J&K state?

The Muslims and their political supporters (read all parties in Kashmir) have openly said that they have been facilitating this Amarnath yatra since decades so where is the need for some other body to take over and run the show. Remember one thing: the Muslim is not fighting because he sees a threat to his personal economy.

Muslims very well understand that Jammu is a part of the J&K state and therefore also understand that Article 370 is applicable to entire state. Under that Article only an outsider from the state cannot be given land, but the Hindus of Jammu are not outsiders!!

The singular reason is: that Muslims and their supporters see in this step an attempt by the government to de- Islamize Kashmir; to enable Hindus to get a foothold in Kashmir and this goes against the content of their de-facto Azadi and therefore there is intolerance to it. This was supported by their leaders (so called mainstream, hardliners/ doves etc.) when they stated that Muslims feared that allocation of land would change demography of Kashmir! Since when did land allocation to natives of a state change its demography!! The self proclaimed hardliners leader Sri Gilani is on record having said that the KPs would not be allowed to resettle in Kashmir and that they would not be tolerated. O! GOI O! Secular Forces! YOU DID NOT HEAR THAT!! Does the Constitution of India allow this kind of anti-national statement; does it allow treason (the Muslims) to prosper and nationalism (the Hindus/ KPs) to be crushed??

The Muslim Mind:

The disinformation game had been going on for more than a decade, post eruption of insurgency in J&K state, regarding the situation in Kashmir and the psyche of Kashmiri Muslims. The Muslims had a conscience role in all that, so everything was going as per their plan. The Hindus all over fell for this propaganda. All the efforts by the media to paint a ROSY picture of Kashmir and its Muslims, at the behest of their masters, were punctured by the pampered children (the Muslims) in no time. It was like a thunderous lightning that made its point with speed greater than that of light before their apologists could grasp the EVENT.

The Kashmiri Muslim knows how to bleed Indian nation and blackmail it from time to time. Muslims have always succeeded in extracting their pound of flesh from the GOI. They have fully utilized this ‘secular’ sentiment which they know is more for political gains. In 1990, GOI gave them a full, well fed goat to feast on (Islamic region) and here were some ignorant people trying to start undoing that! How dare!! Therefore, not an inch of land was to be parted with. Kashmiri Muslims know which side of the bread is buttered and therefore they will never allow their interests to be harmed. Hindus are welcome as tourists and not as residents. This is the political/social/economical/religious mindset of a Muslim. It is this mindset that has to taken on if Indian integrity is to survive.

The Hindu Response:

The Hindus, for once, responded appropriately and in time to the obnoxious demand of Kashmiri Muslims and their leadership. They have given Bandh calls that have been spontaneously responded to by the people; the Hindus were never seen so much agitated collectively since 1947 and this time around the reason is the very strong feeling of step-motherly treatment by the government to people who always stood for Indian cause. The Hindus of Jammu have not forgotten the forced exodus of KPs from the Valley; have not forgotten the apathy of the state and the GOI towards KPs. The Hindus of Jammu and the KPs are bound to resist the nefarious designs of the Muslims with an aim to succeed against them and reclaim the right of Hindus over Kashmir. Ms Mehbooba Mufti who until recently was part of an elected government had the audacity to say that the whole problem is due to Hindus in 2 and a half districts of J&K state. This statement of hers is proof enough of who does she, her father and PDP represent. They certainly do not represent Indian interests and yet are being touted by the vested interests as Indians. The issue here is whether in India Indian or Pakistani opinion should prevail? This is fundamental to the dispute. This is a fight between National and anti-National forces. The anti-National forces have supporters all over the country in various manifestations including the government agencies, so the Nationalist forces are up against a situation where the Nation is under sieze.

The Media Response to Hindu Agitation:

The media did not telecast for a long time the events in Jammu related to the land row, unless a protest was lodged and the media started responding, laboriously though. It was quick to point out how communal forces (Hindu supporters) were fuelling the agitation turning a blind eye to the fact that the Hindu masses (children / women/old/young) were crossing rivers like Tawi & Chenab to reach Jammu by defying curfew regulations. Media and the self proclaimed secular forces need to understand that Amarnath Cave Temple (Shrine) is not worshipped by Hindus because ‘communal forces’ are giving such a call. Hindus want to organize its own religious functions and that there is nothing communal about it.

Indian Flags are openly burnt everyday in Kashmir; Pakistani flags are openly hoisted in Kashmir; this all one sees in the background of the tamasha that Visual media do on the screen; the media do not show all this by directly focusing the camera on the anti-India event, but the Muslims strain hard to bring their activity under focus.

Instead of labeling the Hindu response to nefarious designs of Muslims as communal, the media need to ask the self proclaimed ‘secularists’ in the government & elsewhere as to why no action is taken on the spot by the security forces for the acts like burning of Indian Tri Colour? In any country in the world the person will be straight away shot dead or hanged in a few days time. The media need to ask why Mr. Guru is still not being hanged, instead of calling Hindu response as communal.

The media and the ‘secular forces’ need to understand the following:

If J&K state is an integral part of India then whatever has been happening in Kashmir for decades now cannot be tolerated.

Was It The Innocence?

The Hindus have united and the prayer is that they remain united. The fight against the anti-national elements is long and arduous, as they are supported by powerful people within and without our Union. Shiv Shankar Bholenath sure will impart all the strengths to its devotees to rescue its land from the usurpers and keep Indian integrity intact. We, the real Hindus, need beware of unscrupulous netas and others of their ilk.

For all that has happened till now and may happen hereafter, a basic question comes to my mind:

Is Ms Mehbooba Mufti so naïve as to first allow her party to be signatory to the decision and then retract on the count of peoples’ sentiment? PDP leader sure knows the pulse of her separatists – the Muslims- and therefore cannot feign ignorance on that count. Certainly she cannot claim innocence in the matter. She and her party is a willing political face of what essentially is rabidly communal, murderous and inhuman and anti Indian movement; GOI has been more than willing and enduring partner.

Therefore, Ms. Mufti, your game plan was to give a push to the separatist movement and it was easy for you because you were party to the then government of J&K state. If one was to analyze the role of Sri Mufti Mohd. Sayeed as Home Minister Of India and his frequent visits to the Muslim populated Jammu region of J&K state during the peak of insurgency & his absolute silence on the plight of the KPs and combine it with your nefarious role now then the role of PDP in the insurgency becomes quite clear. But you are safe Ms. Mufti because you are a Muslim and therefore you can be a traitor and yet get cover under secularism.

Certainly you and your supporters must have gathered funds in mind boggling figures helped more vigorously by the GOI and the ‘secular’ forces. You should have stored huge quantities of grains & other materials to sustain your secessionist movement and if you fall short of a resource the GOI will ensure that the Indian Army instead of fighting the secessionist forces till the end ensures free supply to your cadres because ‘secularism’ is to be upheld.

You thought you chose the right moment because political environment in Pakistan is changing and your supporters in there are firmly saddled in the seats of power. Ms. Mufti, my suggestion to you is that you need not go that far to Pakistan to achieve your goals; the GOI is right close by. Pakistan may not help you in achieving secession as much as the GOI and ‘secular’ forces will and in a shorter time.

The Kashmiri Muslims have always successfully fooled the Indian leadership; you know that Ms. Mufti & Late Sheikh Abdullah was master craftsman at that. You are now trying to do that, but Ms. Mufti times have changed because Hindus have united. Beware!!!

The above article is written by my father, but I stand accountable for everything mentioned in it and it's veracity

A note on Independance Day..

On any day of the year if you walk down the streets of any Indian city you will see people rushing about their businesses, kids running around enjoying their carelessness so on and so forth. There would be the sounds of men shouting on the street, cars honking, sounds of machines running etc. But what you would never hear on a day like that is music, specially patriotic music or the national anthem, being played loudly in the open for all to hear and the Tricolour being brandished from every possible nook and corner of the city around you.

Its quite surprising how Indians wake up to celebrate their Independance Day and showing off their patriotic fervour only on 15th August. Every home, car and person would be brandishing the Tricolour on this day. You'll see kids running around waving the flag high and people paying a lot of respect to the flag and even saluting the flag like military cadets. You will notice a very strong love shown by the Indians towards the national flag, but the very next day if you go out for a walk you will notice people rushing about their businesses walking on and stamping on top of the flag devoid of all love and patriotic feeling.

On a normal day if you were to abuse the country in front of another Indian nothing wud happen, most probably he would agree with you and abuse the country rite back. But dont think of doing this on 15th of August. You'd certainly get hammered by a 100 or so people around you. The patriotic zeal of an Indian is a very strong emotion. But surprisingly it emotes only on one day of the year.

To the Indians, show off is everything. Its the clever people who show the rite kind of feelings at the rite time and manipulate dump citizens who do not understand enough to look into the depth of the situation. For e.g. a criminal who wants to go into politics would show the rite patriotic zeal on 15th August and with a few cleverly drafted words would convince the people that he is a true patriot and should be allowed to rule the country. The Indians like always, will be dumb, they will ignore all the newspaper articles and accusations against the clever criminal and vote for him and thus he becomes a part of the government and works for his selfish gains rather than the citizens. And thus we solve the question of how criminals get into politics.

Hail India! Hail the Indians! Happy Independance Day!

Satyameva Jayate

-->SJ

p.s. Lets just hope that Indians wake up to realise their hypocrisy and come to realise that its the individual citizen's credulity and integrity is what matters that makes a nation prosper and respected.

INDEPENDENCE etc.

Ok,,,first things first...Happy Independence Day...as always i got patriotic n a thought process was triggered(hehe,my thought processes are like that toy gun wid da arbitary bullet tied wid a string to da nozzle,,,da same things keep gettin triggered again n again, pardon da strange metaphorism!)
So i got up,attended my morning chem tuition...during dat whole tym i didn wish anybody...i know its nthin to be proud of...its just didn't come as naturally as a birthday wish for sum1 comes...bt mistakes teachin sumthin are worth making...pata nai kyun aisa lag raha tha ki 50% of da ppl sittin dere at da tuition were not even consciously aware ki aaj school ki chutti kyun hai...i always feel dat hearing da same thing over n over again reduces its impact, baat kiti bhi sahi kyun na ho.So many times we've heard da same reasonings n beckonings n all,we get accoustomed to not react to it...bt one thought stirrs me like nythin..."Someone died for me,its a TREMENDOUS thing, how can i tell my soul to ignore it!!!"
Often i end up thinkin how those freedom fighters would actually cry seeing today's scenario.I come across pretty frequently all dis bein a non med student...kitna simple hai na...engineering mba karo life banao, oversees jao aish karo...me myself sumtimes get lured by dese prospects...par pata nai,its sumthing da inner self doesn't give permission of.
My physics teacher told da class a story,he said"dere was a lavish tree, wid lots of birds living on it...den one day the tree caught fire,n da birds kept sittin n burnin wid it.Sum1 asked dem 'u have wings, why don't u fly away n save urself?' n da birds replied 'we were wid it durin its gud times,we had its fruits,we spoiled its leaves wid our dirt,he never said nythin...how can we leave it now just like dat???' "
Seriously speaking the "survival of the fittest" theory confuses me...the Bible says"the meek shall inherit the earth" Animals follow this struggle n win rule...we are supposed to be a bit above dem...its our ethics which makes us humans...a lot of ppl say "we have every right to make our lives better, why shuldn't we?we studied so hard, now its our right to enjoy" I don't understand deir argument...da birds couldn't even do nythin fr da tree...still dey stayed on...hamare paas to poori capability hai...fir bhi y are we giving up???
How many iitians actually stay in India???I know things may not be going at their best presently...bt how will dey get better if we don'y anything..our forefathers cud hav easily said dat "why me only" thing..dey didn't...dey did so much for us...den y do we now hesitate to do sumthin fr others??? Why don't we realise da value of dat inexplicable joy abhinav bindra wd hav got when da national anthem was played on him winning da gold???Why don't we hold on,,,why don't we try???

Da heart did cry hearing about kashmir disturbance...but in dat same news segment...dere was also da news of abhinav bindra winning an olympic gold medal.......

Perfect Moment Of Pride

India. Indians. Freedom Struggle. etc etc Honestly i was not one of those Gr8 souls who spent a lot of time Discovering the Greatness Of Our Nation.I was rather one amongst those crowd of Youngsters who thought Majority of Time and thoughts should be rented only 2 Career,Family,Friends,Hangoutz,Masti etc etc..

For the First Time I Felt d Indian Spirit withn Me was when i watched Rang De Basanti..Dat Movie actually stroke a chord In Me...An Equal Effect was rendered By Chak de India... I Realized it 4 d 3rd time when India won T20 wold cup...Sounds Funny...Probably dat was My Kinda Sources Of Nation Spirit :)

And Finally, There came a moment that Made not jus Me But Every Single Indian Proud.

"Ace Shooter Abhinav Bindra has won India’s first-ever solo Olympic Gold Medal. In the Men’s 10M Air rifle event, he shot a 10.8 out of a possible 10.9 in his final shot (after a series of 100, 99, 100, 98, 100 & 99) to take his combined score to 700.5 [Read about the scoring pattern here] and thereby clinch the Gold Medal. "

Wasn't it A Perfect Moment. As Bindra bowed his head to receive the gold medal from the Princess of Lichtenstein, a small country in central Europe, and the Indian national anthem was played out for the first time in this edition of Olympics. I almost got Goosebumps Hearing Our National Anthem Nd viewing The Visual Of It Being Presented at Olympics.

Here The Video Of My Context of Perfect Moment 4 an Indian:

And here Are Few Words From The Golden Boy Himself,

"After his win, the 25-year-old shooter spoke to NDTV.

Excerpts from the interview:

How did he make it possible?

I worked hard, very very hard and I think that paid off. I think I just went for it, it just went my way and that's about it, on another day somebody else would have won it. Today was my day.

What's the feeling now?

I am pretty exhausted now, it's alright I did a good job and I am happy now.

On his motivation level:

That was a motivation, I thought if he can do it, why not me? I think performancewise I did better in Athens, but got the gold only here.

You can never be sure, sports is like a gamble, somebody loses somebody wins, but you work hard for it and I did that.

On his future plans and the future of Indian Sports:

Give me a break, I just won an Olympic gold, please don't ask what I am doing in the future!

The main problem is with such people who ask such questions about Indian sports. You have to believe in your athletes and if you don't win, doesn't matter, you can do it the next time. This is a start and I hope we win many more medals."

Hats Off Abhinav! U've Made all Of Us Proud.U Have become An Ultimate source Of Inspiration. And Ur Attitude Of welcoming Ur Victory was Jus Awesome. Way 2 Go Man..U rock!!

Proud 2 Be an Indian. Jai Hind. Advance Happy Independence day!!

For those who are proud of India

One song, four stories. Thats Rabbi Shergill's new song "Jinhe Naaz hai" for you. Saw this song in TV last week and I was immediately hooked. Yesterday, got a forward containing the song along with the lyrics. It tells the stories of four Indians who were subject to gross injustice. These were four cases which created a lot of controversies during the time they came out.

The song starts with story of Bilqis Yakoob Rasool. During the Gujarat riots, this 19 year old girl's family of 14 was murdered, which included her little daughter also. If this wasn't enough she was gangraped. After such a gruesome torture, she didn't just resign to her fate and suicide. She decided to fight them in court and that paid off recently when some of the culprits including a policeman were convicted and given a double life sentence. Still, it won't be consolation enough for the trauma she underwent.

Next is the story of Satyendra Dubey who was project director of the National Highway Authority of India. His death at the hands of the corruption kings in Bihar shows the ugly side of Indian beaurocracy. This IIT Kanpur product was the first man from his village to study at an IIT. From the start of his career itself, he was known to fight corruption. He was appointed as the assistant project manager for a part of the Golden quadrilateral project. He fired corrupt engineers and once even ordered to rebuild a part of under-quality road. This incident alone shows how commited he was to the development of the country. Seeing the widespread corruption in the upper echelons of the organisation, he shot a letter directly to the PM of India. The only thing that happened as a result of this was that he was transferred to Gaya in Bihar, where he was eventually shot dead. The murder was made to look as an attempted robbery in court. The devious minds that worked behind this crime are still sitting comfortably in their couch.

The story of Shanmughan Manjunath, which comes next in the song is similar to this. He was an IIM Lucknow graduate. The marketing manager for IOC lost his life to the fight against selling of adulterated fuel in petrol pumps. He ordered two petrol pumps in Lakhimpur Kheri, Lucknow to close down for selling adulterated fuel. When, after a brief period, the pumps started to run again, he conducted raids to these places. And on one such raid, he was shot dead by the petrol pump owner and his accomplices. Contrary to usual practice, this case saw swift action as all the accused were sentenced within 16 months of the crime. Instances like this are which keeps the little that we have in the justice system of this country, alive.

The last story which the song tells is that Of Ms.Navleen Kumar. This social activist worked for the land rights of tribals in Nallasopara, near Mumbai. The builders and land mafia of that area had amassed all the land from the tribals and been doing construction activities. Navleen fought against this and pursued cases against the local mafia. She came into social activism after she her husband was murdered by the land mafia. She was threatened with dire consequences if she continued her fight, once even at gunpoint. Still, she never bowed her head to them. But, One fine morning, on June 19 2002, she was stabbed to death on the terrace of her house. I don't know anything about the progress of this case. Hope it was not swept under the carpet like her husband's.

So, that is Rabbi's song 'Jinhe Naaz Hai' for you. The song is not about the lyrics alone. The strains of 'Jana Gana Mana' played on guitar that comes in between the song is sure to give you goosebumps. From 'Bulla ki Jaana' to this song, Rabbi has grown from a normal musician to the level of a musical activist. The two lines that repeat after every story - "Jinhe naaz hai hind par vo kahan theJinhe naaz hai vo kahan hain"[Where were those who are proud of IndiaWhere are those who are proud]-is a call to each one of us. Its not often that you get to see such lyrics in Indian music. Each of the four individuals mentioned in this song tried to make a difference to the soceity. And they laid down their life for a cause. Its good that we are remembering them atleast through this song. Thanks to Rabbi.

PS-Going home today. So advanced Independence day wishes to all.

Season of freedom

Hi all,
Thanks for the invitation to be part of this wonderful blog. I went through some of the contents of this blog and was impressed by the intent with which this group is functioning. So, I am starting off today with this small piece of writing. A special thanks to Gauri Mathur, who invited me. Read on..

Its that time of the year again when we all send messages to each other with all patriotic fervour. Our minds are full of thoughts about our country. The streets are filled with flag vendors. Almost every passing vehicle has a tricolour at the front. We even hang the flag in front of our houses. The internet is full of forwarded messages about the long struggle for freedom and the greatness of our country. The political parties are not far behind, conducting meetings with fanfare.

But, beyond that are we doing anything worthwhile? yes, we do sit in front of the tv all day and enjoy all those film based programs and independence day special movie. In the olden days, atleast those movies used to be classic patriotic movies. But, now we get to see some crap romantic movie or maybe some steamy hot movie featuring the latest hottie in town. And if you are politician, you will be busy hoisting the flag and taking the customary salute. The salute may vary from politician to politician, from 5 outstretched fingers to 2 finger salutes. For the policemen, independence day eve is the busiest time of the year, searching the nook and corner of the cities for bombs. For the government servant, I day is the one as described above, best spent in front of the idiot box. For the Gen-X, its a day to hangout with their buddies or catch the latest release at the nearest theatre[even am no different].

We remember our great country only twice in an year. And that day too is spent like this. Our patriotism is all about phoney forwarded messages and all that stuff. Come August 16th and we'll ask, ''what India, what independence, i got better things to think about''. We are not bothered that our bloody politicians looting our country in a bigger way than the british did. We are not bothered that by playing according to the whims of the US, our leaders are making our country more dependent than ever. We are always ready to vote the leaders who stunt our developmental policies, again to power. And most of all, we gave an Italian jughead, a place among the greatest leaders of our country. So much for the great Independent India.

We should be doing something more worthwhile like charity work or community service, atleast on this day. We should get outside our comfort zone and travel to see the other face of India..the ugly underdeveloped side. You may not believe that there are many people in rural India who donot know India's independnce day. And even more, there are some who don't know the name of the country they live in..Yes, its happening in our India...For all this to change, we should act...We, the more privileged should be there to help the underprivileged and help them to be self dependent. Only then will the word independence achieve its true meaning......

But, even me, who has blabbered this much is doing nothing...... Thats the sad part of it.....
yours truly,
Praveen

New Year Message – 2007 by Pujya Pitaji Maharaj

On the auspicious eve of the New Year-2007, I wholeheartedly congratulate each one of you. Let Lord Rama’s Canopy of Grace always cover all of you! Let the Spiritual Master himself guide you on your Spiritual Path!

Let the recitation of the Holy Name become the cardinal quality of your life. The easiest and the surest pathway of God-realization is the purgation or purification of Mind and Heart. A person whose heart is holy & pure, his conduct and thought tend to become pure and noble. Jaap (repetition of the Holy Word) after sweeping off our internal darkness, makes our heart pure and transparent. As we accord importance to Naam (Holy Name), Jaap (repetition of the Holy Word) and Satsang( Congregation) in our life, paths of spiral progress and spiritual development open up of their own. As our Love and Faith in God increases, our faith in Jaap and Simran becomes stronger and stronger.

The devotees who are alive to their spiritual goal or progress, God Himself showeth the path to them. Look into yourselves. If your mental-weaknesses, anger, worries and fears are decreasing, if your doubts are resolving of their own, & if the quality of fearlessness is increasing; consider that you are marching on the path of spiritual progress. Only a peaceful heart can attain the Divine Light. Let God be helpful in your spiritual devotion and dedication! Let your life be successful and spiritually awake!

“Deep Devotion, deep Love and firm Faith in Sri Ram,
Recitation & reiteration of the Holy Name
are the quintessence of True Worship”

Let the New Year-2007 be a Harbinger of Well-being!
Let the Grace of thy Master (Guru) and Lord Rama continue to wrap you up!

SO called benifits of the Nuclear Deal

۩ सर्व शकितमते परमात्मने श्री रामाय नमः۩
On JUly,25th 2008 A full page colored advertisement was published in the Hindustan times
high lighting the bravery of Samajwadi party leaders.
If anyone can please inform me how come these people can afford such expensive advertisements to praise their own party president and general secretary please the comment in the comment box.
Anyways coming to the point. They wrote there in the advt the benefits of the nuclear deal which are very misleading.Hence this post.
Here we go
*Every Home will get electricity
Now, if we generate the nuclear energy to its full capacity and i mean full or maximum capacity In India by the year 2020 , the nuclear energy will account for less then 6% of our energy needs.
*Our dependence on crude oil will reduce greatly and thus the cost of transportation and everything else.
India imports most of its crude oil requirement. But nuclear fuels aren't grown in agricultural fields either. They too have to be imported from a small cartel of countries.SO this statement is something like, i say i don't want to be bitten by a eagle but a vulture.
*Inflation can be curbed
Probably they meant that when the deal is done perhaps then the prime minister will wake up to inflation problems.ANyways to create a nuclear plant u need to spend crores of rupees.A hydro power project generates electricity at less then 30 paise per unit.A nuclear power plant will generate at an estimated cost of 15 rupees per unit if we produce it at today's rate.
*India is a growing nation and needs constant supply of energy in different forms, with this deal India can be energy independent.
DOes India has shortfall of only 6% of energy? Why is not the govt serious about other renewable sources of energy which can fulfill more then 50% of our energy needs?
*International Sanctions against us will be lifted and India will be again be seen as a sovereign power.
INdia is always seen as a sovereign power. And when United states will have influence on our nuclear policies, has our sovereignty enhanced or depleted???

IT'S STRANGE !!! ISN'T IT?

Friday, July 20, 2007 [Transplanted from Enlightenment]

Isn't it strange how a 20 rupee note seems like such a
large amount when you donate it to temple,
but such a small amount
when you go shopping?

Isn't it strange how 2 hours seem so long
when you're at Temple and
how short they seem
when you're watching a good movie?

Isn't it strange that you can't find a word to say
when you're praying,
but you have no trouble thinking
what to talk about with a friend?

Isn't it strange how difficult and boring it is
to read one chapter of the Bhagwad Gita,
but how easy it is
to read 100 pages of a popular novel ?

Isn't it strange how everyone
wants front-row-tickets to concerts or games,
but they do whatever is possible
to sit at the last row in Jagran?

Isn't it strange how we need
to know about an event for Temple 2-3 weeks before the day
so we can include it in our agenda,
but we can adjust it for other events
in the last minute?

Isn't it strange how difficult it is
to learn a fact about God to share it with others,
but how easy it is
to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip?

Isn't it strange how
we believe everything that magazines and newspapers say,
but we question the words
in the Bhagwad Gita?

Isn't it strange how
everyone wants a place in heaven,
but they don't want to believe, do,
or say anything to get there?

Isn't it strange how
we send jokes in e-mails and they are forwarded right away,
but when we are going to send messages about God,
we think about it twice before we share it with others?

The nuclear debate

One of the earlier posts, the Nuclear Sham, caught my eye. And now, I provide my view on the nuclear debate. Is nuclear power the much awaited solution to the energy crisis? Let us try and analyse the pros and cons of going nuclear. After all, we are in the "post- Nuclear Age", aren't we? Discussions welcome.

Going 'for' the motion:

For starters we have to point out that scientists are not sure exactly what is causing global warming. While most people would say that the so‐called greenhouse gases are responsible, the truth is that we do not know what exactly the reason is. The production of these kind of gases incremented exponentially in the last decades, but we are observing just a limited modification in temperature; while we know in the ages past there was far greater temperature oscillation‐not caused by greenhouses gases.

Of course, this does not mean we should not care about emissions of dangerous gases or other chemical compounds. Nuclear power may not be the answer to global warming but it our last and best chance to consolidate our lifestyle. Our current world is extremely power‐hungry, and we have to find a cheap and reliable energy source not just for the future but for the generations to come.

Nuclear power can be the solution here. Nuclear reactors are expensive in design and construction, but, once established, a nuclear power plant can extract energy from fission for decades with low operational cost. The third and fourth generation fission reactors are extremely safe machines: they include active and passive security systems that allow the reactor to automatically shut down with neither the intervention of any operator nor any external energy source. Some will say that exhausted nuclear fuel is still an issue, but this is not completely true. The waste with the longest half‐life can be stored in geological depots that are known to be absolutely safe for the whole and the next geological era. Additionally, most parts of the self‐breeder reactors have the ability to transmute radioactive materials, and so, they can reuse the same fuel until a short‐living waste can be produced.

Of course, nuclear power is not limited to the current fission technology: it is clear that a sustained research and technological effort can lead us to harness the power of controlled nuclear fusion in some 50 years from now. Z‐machine, NIF, ITER, you name it, the technology is almost there. We just need to convince people and politicians that this is the future.

Talking about renewable energy is not enough to solve the problem. Looking at the best estimates, we can safely say that this kind of technology will allow any advanced country to produce 20% or 30% maximum of its needs. The rest is simply a lie‐it is not and it will probably never be possible to cover 100% of our energetic needs with renewable energy.

Nuclear power is, according to our current physics, the best we can bet on. For us, and for our progeny.

Now, going 'against' the motion:

To begin with, there is no such thing as THE answer to global warming. That would assume there was only one cause, which is not the case. Addressing nuclear energy in particular, however, there are several problems with relying on it for energy production. The nuclear industry wants to resuscitate its product. Sorry— it already died of an incurable attack of market forces. Only centrally planned energy systems (Russia, Taiwan, the Koreas, and Japan) still propose nuclear plants.

“If a thing is not worth doing,” said economist John Maynard Keynes, “it is not worth doing well.” Even ignoring risks— proliferation, waste storage and disposal, and uninsurable accidents— nuclear power is uncompetitive and unnecessary.

Nuclear energy advocates say that it is ideal because it doesn't put off greenhouse gases. This is only true if you are looking at the final product of nuclear fuel being used in a nuclear reactor to produce electricity. It kind of falls apart, however, if you look at the process leading up to the existence of that reactor and the fuel it contains.

One of the major sources of greenhouse gases is fuel combustion. Where does the fuel in a nuclear reactor come from? It comes from the ground; it must be dug up. What digs it up? Earth‐moving machinery that operates on‐you guessed it‐fuel. Nobody has invented earth‐moving machinery or mining equipment that operates without pollution. This would seem to be a rather important oversight.

Similar issues are involved with the building of the reactor. Have you ever heard of a building contractor that does its job with no combustion fuel, whatsoever? Me neither. And what isn't powered by fuel has to be powered by electricity. That electricity has to be generated from somewhere. Diesel fuel and gasoline are definitely involved.

Furthermore, consider where uranium comes from. Because it is underground, one must dig to obtain it. It is often found in areas with trees and other ground cover, so these must be cleared away. When you cut down vegetation you eliminate some of Nature's best carbon‐scrubbers. A uranium mine isn't a tropical rainforest, mind you, but if the end goal is to reduce global warming then perhaps we need to be looking at other ways to do that without destroying what the Earth already has in place to keep atmospheric carbon in check.

Also, when one digs up the soil, it is another source of atmospheric carbon. (This is also a problem with farming, since you have to plow first before you can plant.) Disturbed earth puts off CO2 in large amounts. Again, uranium mining isn't the same as vast stretches of farmland, but if what we're after is reducing global warming, why do things that increase it even a little?

Once the reactor is built and the fuel put into it, that is not the end of the story. Fuel still needs to be transported to the reactor site periodically. That is going to require the production of greenhouse gases. And one day the reactor will need to be retired, which will mean another reactor needs to be built.

Additionally, the building of nuclear reactors may eliminate some greenhouse gases from electricity production, but that is not the end of the story. Electricity production is only one major source. If we are not doing anything about all the carbon put out by automobiles and other vehicles, we are still going to have serious problems in the future. There are six billion people on this planet, a good many of them own cars, and still more are gaining affluence and would like to own cars one day. That’s going to add up in a hurry.

If we only consider greenhouse gases produced by power plants and don't consider other sources of those gases then we haven't solved anything. People will assume it's OK to continue buying lots and lots of cars, and that it's OK to not care whether those cars have the best fuel efficiency possible. We will also continue engaging in other behaviors that increase the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Efficient use is the nation’s largest and fastest growing energy source: bigger than oil, growing 3.1% a year. Just electricity efficiency can save four times’ nuclear power’s output, at one‐sixth its operating cost. Those faster, cheaper, safer options emit little or no pollution, and most are climate‐safe. But replacing power from coal‐fired plants with nuclear power, as usually proposed, is the least‐effective solution to global warming.

We need to look at global warming as a systemic problem with lots of different causes, which is exactly what it is, and approach the problems from that perspective. I have doubts we are going to be able to reverse the damage we have done, but if we are serious about even trying in the first place, let's do it right.

Nuclear salesmen scour the world for a single order; makers of alternatives enjoy brisk business. Let’s profit from their experience. Taking markets seriously, not propping up failed technologies at public expense, offers a stable climate, a prosperous economy and a cleaner and more peaceful world.

Bottom‐line: It’s too costly and too risky. More energy‐efficient alternatives exist.
